Just fill the base of the egg cooker to within 1 1/2" from the top edge. Place the tray in the base and add eggs. My microwave is 1100 watts and I cook 4 large eggs for 7 minutes 15 seconds on high to get a perfect hard boiled egg. After time elapses leave eggs in the egg cooker in the microwave to allow the carryover heat to finish the cooking process. Put the hot eggs (I move them with tongs) in a container (I use the cooker base) of cold water, with ice if you have it, to cool for a few minutes (until easily handled), then crack and peel. So easy! I bought my original in 2012 and have used it weekly (if not more often) since. I have purchased several of these as gifts and people are always astounded at how easily it works. I rated this 4 stars as the plastic is very light weight (this cookers weighs several ounces less than my original) and I am not expecting it to rival the original in terms of its longevity. Also, it's missing the fill line in the base. Still it does the job:)
