For the home chef and indeed the professional chef who wants to learn traditional methods of rice cooking, I can recommend this simple yet effective Thai Bamboo Sticky Rice Steamer. Only a few dollars and WELL worth investing if, like me, you want to practice traditional methods of Asian Cuisine. What could be simpler than this lovely implement! After washing and soaking your glutinous rice (5 hours min) then soaking the bamboo basket, adding a litre of water to the aluminium boiler, and away you go! Just add your washed/soaked rice to the basket, cover with another bamboo or metal lid (just to keep in the steam) and cook for 30mins (first step) then remove basket, and simply "flip" the now congealed ball of rice 180 degrees so the bottom is now at the top, return to steamer pot, cover and steam another 10 mins. Remove and serve...OH AND PLACE the BAMBOO basket straight into warm water to clean it out or you will never get the sticky remains out! Happy Steaming!
